Text Schwab, Marion “Conflicts are there to be resolved” A mediative education programme for constructive conflict resolutions in schools for children with special needs in Lower Austria. Drawbacks, opportunities and points of contact for further areas of social work arising from it. Conflicts are often experienced as disturbing, destructive and painful. Since conflicts are part of our everyday life, it follows that we should learn to handle them positively. This paper deals with mediative education as a form of social competence training to convey constructive conflict resolution, restricted to the programme „Konflikte sind zum Lösen da” (Conflicts are there to be resolved) at schools for children with special needs in Lower Austria. It should give answers to questions such as how school teachers for children with special needs experience the programme, what kind of conflicts in everyday school life can be handled using the programme, where the limits of this programme lie and which points of contact for further areas of social work arise from it. In the theory part the core elements of conflict theory and mediation for mediative education are explained, as well as introducing mediative education with its basic principles and targets. Together with the lifeworld of schools the programme in schools with special needs “Konflikte sind zum Lösen da“ is also explained. In the empirical part of this work, qualitative interviews, with teachers who took part in this project together with their classes, are evaluated and presented in categories. The evaluation shows a satisfying acceptance of the programmes. A further chapter, based on these interview results, shows possibilities of further concept development as well as points of contact to other areas of social work. An important result shows that teachers would like a special form of support, similar to the one offered by school social work. application/pdf deu St. Pölten, FH-Stg.
