The work raises the question what role they play within the international exploitation of Austrian films or coproductions besides their exploitation on the national market. The goals of this thesis are to show how these films are exploited on the international market and to analyse how the teamwork between film producers and sales agents is arranged. An overview of basic elements of exploitation at the beginning as well as the general conditions on the international market in part two make up the theoretical framework of this paper. In addition, the detailed examination of these issues should help to point out coherences and direct as well as indirect impacts on the work of sales agents. The third chapter of this thesis deals with the analysis of world sales agents as a company itself: their different functions; their tasks and what requirements they have to meet, as well as the European sales agents landscape as a whole. The findings provide the basis for figuring out what part sales agents play within the worldwide exploitation of films. Additionally to literature research, the author has chosen the empirical method of a “Qualitative Expert Interview” and carried out interviews with people who work as or for a world sales agent. The outcomes of these interviews closed gaps, which could not be covered by literature and were helpful to broaden the author’s mind in regard to finding adequate solutions. The last chapter analyses through whom and how Austrian (co)productions are exploited on the international market. Therefore the author surveyed a sample of such films and tried to draw conclusions where possible. To sum up the empirical part, one example is described and analysed in detail. All rights reserved Österreich; Filmwirtschaft; Vermarktung Schmölz, Julia
